Our brain is not the largest in the animal kingdom…Many creatures have superior abilities compared to us…so what makes us anatomically special…why do we think that we are the smartest thing around?
What sets us apart neurologically is the ability of neurons from many different areas of our brain to coordinate and fire in sync…& consequently, what creates the most problems throughout our body & even in our society, is a lack of synchronization and simultaneous firing of these differing parts of the brain!
What sets us apart anatomically, is our ability to stand and run upright for long distances, & let’s not forget the opposable thumbs…It should come as no surprise that these significant differences had neurological impacts as well….
Evolutionarily speaking, from early on, the species that could move towards food/procreation & away from danger, had the greatest survival chance….hence, neurologic sensory detection & motor coordination faculties gave an advantage to species that possessed them. And ever since, whatever mutation made that process more efficient & viable, made it into our current gene pool. That includes walking upright, as well as separation of different brain areas for performing differing tasks…hencr the right and left brain specialization.
Developmentally speaking, humans can no longer fully develop in utero…that’s because our head size has reached a point where it won’t clear for the birthing process…as a result, we have evolved to develop without our brain being fully developed at birth & the process takes a few years to complete before we are viable and independent after birth. That also means, anything that alters our brain development early on in life, will alter our viability & independence in a most profound way. & as we are social creatures, it affects our ability to be productive members of society as well.
To put the evolutionary & developmental pictures together means to maximize our neural efficiency & coordination, by optimizing our early neural development. That will ensure optimal viability and productivity in our lifetime. In short, you can get maximum brain power & control when you optimize sensory and motor stimulation & coordination early on in life, as you also sustain with optimal nutrition, oxygen delivery & rest!! What does all this gibberish mean in practical terms?….
